ABOUT US

We started the Carbon Census because we wanted to make a difference. The UK housing stock is one of the oldest in the world, and over a quarter of our total carbon emissions comes from energy used in everyday, family homes around the country. It's obvious we need a new solution to this problem.

At the same time, people have told us they do want to make a difference - if we can show them how. So we've developed a service that does just that, and set a goal to survey 100,000 houses, and see if we can save a million tonnes of CO2. We don't know exactly how long that will take, but we're getting started now - one house at a time!

We only use assessors with the skills and training to give you good advice. Everyone on our team is a Domestic Energy Assessor, an official qualification which also means they’ve passed a full criminal background check, and that their assessments are regularly audited by an independent certification body (The Buildings Research Establishment, now known as BRE). So you know you’re in safe hands.

In addition, The Energy Saving Trust provides further training and evaluation, and keeps us up to date with all the latest facts and figures. So you can be confident in the advice we offer.

The Carbon Census was started by people who care about climate change, believe what the science is telling us, and wanted to make a practical contribution. As individuals, we’ve worked in business, NGOs and the public sector – but none of us have worked in a fast growing start-up before!

If you’d like to know more about us, our experience getting this project launched, or our ideas about energy policy, have a look at The Carbon Census Blog. And watch out for us in the news too - we're learning a lot from our work and publish regular comment articles in the press.
